Hospitalist

Hospitalist Hospitalist Program at Spooner Health Spooner Health began the hospitalist program in 2015 to increase the quality of care for our patients. Our hospitalist providers are trained in hospital…

Hospitalists

One member of our inpatient care team in Spooner is the advanced practice nurse practitioner who serves as a hospitalist. This is a provider who specializes in caring for patients who are in the hospital. The hospitalist will work closely with a patient’s primary care and specialty physicians to ensure the most effective treatment plan. The impatient care hospitalist at Spooner Health is also available to answer questions, go over test results and manage your medical needs during a hospital stay.

Social Services

Another part of the inpatient care team in Spooner is social services. Spooner Health has a social worker available to help patients and/or family with social, emotional and financial concerns related to a hospital stay, rehabilitation or long-term care. The social worker is also able to provide information about community services that are available upon discharge.

Electronic Medical Records

In addition to the inpatient care team, Spooner Health has implemented an electronic medical record (EMR) system to further increase the level of care patients receive. With this EMR:

  • Caregivers are able to update patient medical records right at the bed side, and therefore, spend less time charting and more time providing care.
  • Barcodes on medications are verified with the barcode on a patient’s wristband, ensuring each patient is receiving the right medication, at the right dose and at the right time.
  • Everything is updated in real time, so primary and specialty physicians can view a patient’s records without having to wait and receive a paper chart.

 Observation Stay

Observation is a special service that allows you to be in the hospital for a short time to evaluate or treat your symptoms. An observation stay may be beneficial to a patient who is experiencing:

  • Nausea and/or vomiting
  • Stomach pain
  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Chest pain
  • Delayed recovery from an outpatient surgical procedure

Usually an outpatient observation stay lasts 24 hours, after which, your physician will determine if you need to be:

  • Admitted as an inpatient
  • Transferred to another hospital or medical facility
  • Discharged back home
