SPOONER HEALTH TO BREAK GROUND ON ADDITION IN MAY

Spooner Health will be breaking ground on an exciting new addition to the hospital in May. The addition will include a primary care clinic, jointly owned by Tamarack Health and Spooner Health, as well as a new space for the visiting specialist clinic, general surgery, and wound care departments.
“During the last several community health surveys we have conducted, we heard clearly from our community about the need for more primary care providers,” shared Mike Schafer, CEO of Spooner Health. “The upcoming building project works to address this need, as well as many other critical needs. Offering primary care and prenatal care to our community with our colleagues at Tamarack Health will greatly improve the access to care in our area. Additionally, the expansion of our other hospital services will allow us to provide the best care possible to our patients.”
The building project will also include a renovation and repurposing of several areas of the hospital to meet the expanding needs of the community.
“The building project will allow us to expand our emergency department treatment rooms, significantly increasing our capacity,” said Clint Miller, Chief Nursing Officer. “The emergency department triage room will also be expanded to improve our patient flow in that department. Several other departments have outgrown their space over the past ten years including imaging, surgery, wound care, rehabilitation services, and lab. Each of those needs are also being addressed with the building project”
Phase 1: May 2026-June 2027
- Primary Care Clinic – Jointly owned by Tamarack Health and Spooner Health, the primary care clinic will be located in the new portion of the building and will initially bring 2-3 additional primary care providers to the Spooner community.
- Specialty Clinic – The current specialty clinic for visiting specialists will move from its current location in the hospital to the new addition, allowing easy access to specialists.
- Surgery – General surgeon, Dr. Philip Mofle, will see his clinic patients in that space. New minor procedure rooms will be located in the addition.
- Wound Care – Nicole Perkins, APNP Wound Care Specialist, will be treating patients in the new specialty clinic space.
- MRI – A new, permanent MRI space will be built, replacing the current mobile unit.
- Patient Accounts – The patient accounts department will be moving a portion of its operations to the new addition to better serve patients.
Phase 2a: June 2027-October 2027
- Emergency Room – Three new treatment rooms, as well as a dedicated triage room, will increase the capacity and improve the patient flow in the emergency room.
- Imaging – In addition to the new MRI, a new imaging room will be constructed to improve patient flow with a more centrally located location
Phase 2b: June 2027-January 2028
- Rehabilitation Services – Due to increasing demand for services, a second gym space will be added, increased provider space, as well as relocating the Cardiac Rehab service to the Rehabilitation Services department to better serve patients.
- Laboratory – A new outpatient laboratory room will allow more convenient access for patients in need of lab services.
All services at Spooner Health will remain open during each construction phase. Any changes in access with new entrances will be communicated via social media and the Spooner Health website.
